Karl Hedin

Karl Hedin

Karl Hedin, born August 26, 1949, is a Swedish entrepreneur, author, and wolf debate activist. He is the son of Lars Hedin, has a degree in business administration, owns and operates the wood industry company AB Karl Hedin, and is one of Sweden's largest private forest owners. The company, headquartered in Fagersta, was founded by his grandfather Karl Hedin in the early 20th century. Today, it operates in Sweden and Estonia with approximately 950 employees and includes forestry, sawmills, and building material stores. Hedin has actively advocated against the presence of wolves in Swedish forests, describing them as pests. His company has introduced the term "Hedinröjning," which translates to "En ungskog utan vargar," where "vargar" metaphorically represent "starkt förväxande träd." In 2021, he was acquitted in court of charges related to illegal wolf hunting, including allegations of supplying poison to kill wolves. During the legal process, which began in October 2018, he wrote the book Maktmissbruk – ett hot mot demokratin.
